Visit Kapadokya



About

Kapadokya (in English: Cappadocia) is located in the Taurus Mountains of central Turkey. Its landscape includes expansive volcanic rock sprawled throughout a desert plateau. These volcanic rocks are nicknamed “fairy chimneys” and are shaped into cone-like towers which housed dwellers and early Christians. There are remnants of the underground tunnel systems which come from the Byzantine and Islamic eras. Kapadokya is filled with ancient artifacts, remains the Hittite-Assyrian city Kanesh, and excavations of other towns. Thousands of tablets have been discovered which are some of the oldest written documents uncovered in Turkey.



What Can I See When Visiting Kapadokya?

The UNESCO World Heritage rock sites, Göreme National Park, historic churches, and rock formations are great activities to start with. You can take in the view of the infamous Fairy Chimneys at sunrise on a hot air balloon ride, go on a private tour of ancient churches and caves, go ATV Biking, or enjoy dinner in a Turkish cave while experiencing Turkish dance performances. This is just the start of many more experiences you can enjoy during your stay in Kapadokya.


Time of year tip: Most of the year is great to visit Kapadokya. In the winter, you can occassionaly see snow topped chimneys, and the spring, summer, and fall offer pleasant temperatures to explore the landscape. You can also ski in the winter.

The spring, summer, and fall are absolutely gorgeous.

What Can I Do with Kids at Kapadokya?

Exploring caves and staying in adventurous hotels that are carved into rocks provides an enjoyable yet adventurous experience with kids.


Is Kapadokya Good for Kids and Toddlers?

Strollers may be difficult considering the terrain. The cliffs typically have no protective barriers. You should be mindful and keep your little ones away from the cliff edges.


Most of the dirt paths would be ok for baby-wearing.


What are the Age Restrictions?

Kapadokya is located in in central Turkey in the province of Kayseri.


How do I get to Kapadokya?

The Kayseri Erkilet Airport is the major airport in Kapadokya. It is about an hour drive from Kayseri Airport to Kapadokya.

How Much Are Tickets?

Hot Air balloon tickets can range from $70.00 to $115.00 per adult depending on which experience you choose. A private tour of the north or south of Kapadokya is about $50.00 per adult. Depending upon the activities you choose, prices will fluctuate.
